If I keep getting seemingly random notifications of my social group (I have none, I am a misanthrope) or buzz group or whatever nonsense Google wants to push, I may transfer everything over to a paid web server.
I already use FatCow for my class activities--I was wary about using Google for my students.
I'm more than wary now.

I like the notion of one large transnational corporation controlling the organization of information. It makes the world feel real cozy.
Down at the bottom of your gmail inbox, use the link "turn off buzz".
Hopefully that makes the emails go away too. If not, let me know and I'll tell the google.
I was going recommend using the "turn off buzz" button, but I see that suggestion has already been made. Mine is on 'off' - I learned about the "off" button when I took a peek at what people might be buzzing about - not a promising outlook for The Buzz.
Dear John,
I think you are gnawing at the the real bone here--Google makes me itchy.
Dear ertzeid and Doug,
I did that, and while I was not happy with the opt out way it was set up, I figured I was done with it.
Until I was searching images--I got some nonsense on the bottom about someone in my "social circle" searching for something similar. I had hoped that opting out of Buzz fixed that--apparently it does not.
Google is wonderful at what it does publicly, and the one person I know (*wink*) associated with Google is bright and trustworthy and among the best her generation offers.
Bottom line, though, is data mining--which I am shamefully happy to ignore so long as I am getting "free" service and the mining is unobtrusive.
Might be time to go back to my Futura typewrite--I owe three people letters anyway....
